HiFi Nametags

nametags.js
Displays users’ display names above their heads.

Obtain from the HiFi Marketplace: https://highfidelity.com/marketplace/items/nametags

Or run from the following URL: http://ctrlaltstudio.com/downloads/hifi/scripts/nametags.js

Usage:

  • Toolbar/tablet button toggles nametags on/off.
    Nametags toolbar icon
  • Menu item: View > Nametags toggles nametags on/off.

The nametags displayed are the display names that each user sets — or “anonymous” if none is set — with numbers appended if necessary to make them unique. These are the same names as displayed in the “People” dialog.

To set your display name, see Settings > Avatar > Avatar display name.

Dislaimers:

  • The avatar identification provided by the nametags displayed is not guaranteed: users can set their display name to whatever they like.
  • The content of the nametags displayed is not moderated.

Hello, I used to use this and it worked perfectly. However, since clean re-installing HF, it stopped working. It was still showing in the Running Scripts though. I deleted it from the running script and bought it again from the marketplace, but it doesn’t show up in My Purchase although the script is in the Running Scripts. I have tried it many times, but still not working. The other type from another creator works, but not like this one which shows the names all the time for everyone around, so I prefer to have this worked. Could you please help me? Thanks.

Hi. I’m not sure what’s going on with the Marketplace item at present; I’ll have a better look tomorrow.

In the meantime, you can run the script from the URL provided near the top of this Web page.

The Marketplace copy of the nametags script appears to be working OK today. I couldn’t access the Marketplace at all yesterday when I tried, but now I have and have successfully purchased and used the script.

Thank you for your reply. I have found out that the names are shown when I’m on desktop mode, but for some reason it doesn’t work when I’m on VR mode. I use WMR, and I don’t know if that is the reason. I have had only used it when I was on desktop mode before.
