Stereoscopic 3D support for Second Life and OpenSim has been completed with the CtrlAltStudio Viewer 220.127.116.11218 Release.
Significant improvements this version include:
- Fixed objects near the edge of the screen not being displayed in stereoscopic 3D.
- Added a “3D” toolbar button that toggles stereoscopic 3D rendering on and off.
- Fixed stereoscopic 3D rendering problems that occurred with Basic Shaders or Atmospheric Shaders on but Advanced Lighting Model off.
- Added sound.
- Added version checking so that you are notified when there is a new viewer release.
And thank you once more to Cinder Roxley for providing a Mac OSX installer.
This completes the work I intend doing on stereoscopic 3D for now. There are a number of improvements that could be made, particularly in the graphics pipeline, but I expect that most of these will be addressed by Linden Lab’s Oculus Rift code changes which will make their way into this viewer in due course. However, I’ll fix any bugs that need fixing and I’ll keep this viewer up to date with Firestorm viewer code updates.
I’m very interested in hearing more people’s experiences in running stereoscopic 3D — which equipment configurations does it run on? GeForce Windows and GeForce Max OSX with NVIDIA 3D Vision appear to work well, at least with recent graphics chips. And someone’s used NVIDIA 3DTV Play to display on a 3DTV. … Now, what about AMD graphics systems?
